The Abercrave and District Miners' Institute was opened on 27 October 1928 by Thomas Richards. Constructed at a cost of £6,500 (£2,000 of which was met by a grant from the Miners' Welfare Fund), it was designed by Edgar R. Griffith, a Swansea Architect. At the time of opening it comprised a main concert hall with gallery (capacity 620), billiards rooms and committee rooms. Remaining in use as a social club and meeting hall, the Institute now consists of a bar and lounge, function hall, kitchen and offices.
