Opened towards the end of the nineteenth century, the Llwynypia Workmen's Hall & Institute developed steadily in the early part of the twentieth century. Notable features include a swimming bath, unveiled in 1906 by William Walker Hood (the son of colliery owner Archibald Hood) , which was the first indoor swimming bath in the Rhondda and a plaque commemorating the life of John Hopla, the miner's leader imprisoned following the Tonypandy Riots of November 1910. The swimming baths were closed in the 1920s because of mining subsidence. The Institute was demolished in the 1990s.
