Blaina Institute was founded in 1884 and the building marked in this record was constructed in 1893 at a cost of £1,988. Providing a library and reading room, billiards hall, public hall, ladies room, committee rooms, and games rooms, the Institute remained in use for its original purpose until the 1970s. Today it is used as a public library and community centre. The building also houses the Blaina & District Museum.
