DisgrifiadConstructed between the wars with assistance from the Miners' Welfare Fund, Abercarn & Cwmcarn Institute provided (amongst other typical features) a library and reading room. Maintained by local mine workers, the building survived into the 1960s but with the closure of the local collieries (the last in 1968) the financial surity of the institute weakened. Eventually demolished, the site is now occupied by a doctor's surgery.
