Senghenydd Workmen's Hall opened in 1900 and provided a library and reading room, public hall, and other features typical of a miners' institute in this period. The building was extended in 1924 and the completed building opened by Evan Edwards, the Chairman of the Hall Committee. The redesigned building was planned by Sidney Williams, architect, and built by A. J. Rossiter of Caerphilly. Having survived the closure of Universal Colliery in 1928, albeit barely, the Institute remained in use for much of the twentieth century and is still extant. Today, it is used as a community centre and houses a small museum to the mining industry of the Aber Valley.
