The wooden extension to the pier was built around 1911 to accommodate larger ships and faciltate loading from both sides. A major redevelopment scheme in the mid 1980s saw the pier refurbished. It attracted anglers, from a long distances away, for the catching Dab, Wrasse, Whiting, Dogfish and Pollock. The pier was also popular with sports divers as a shallow shore dive. However, in October 2005, the costs of repairing damage (estimated at £500,000) forced Gwynedd Council to begin the consultation process for its demolition.
