DescriptionSt James's Square meat market was built in 1823 and is still used as a small general market. Its walls are plain white-washed stone and the iron roof trusses are presumably later. The location of the meat market is a survivor of the days when the commercial centre of the town was still close to the medieval market place outside the castle gates.
