2. Dewston House garden is a more or less intact survival of a network of very rare and unusual underground gardens, dating from about l900 with underground, top-lit chambers for growing ferns, laid out with artificial rockwork, pools, channels and fountains above ground. There is also the site of an important series of lost hot houses. CSB

3. This garden is depicted on the Second Edition Ordnance Survey 25-inch map of Monmouthshire XXX, sheet 15 (1901). Its main elements on that map include rockerys, lodge, underground gardens, well, possible summerhouse, kitchen garden, avenue, ornamental pond, orchard, greenhouses, carriage drive and parkland.
