Although not clearly indicated on Ordnance Survey maps and not visible in the field, there must be an obscured shaft at this location, in view of the presence of three spoil tips, a tramway bed and a winding or pumping wheel pit immediately adjacent. The grid reference is based on the 2nd edition Ordnance Survey map which appears to indicate a shaft location associated with the spoil tip that lies closest to this point. R.P.
