The Amoco oil refinery, later operated by Elf and Murco, was commenced in 1971 and came on-stream in 1973. Major upgradings to the plant were made in 1981, 1992 and 1996, and in 2008 the plant was capable of processing 118,000 barrels per day of crude oil. Transport of output was by road, rail and pipeline. Closure of the refinery was announced in 2014 and the site was the sold to Puma Energy in 2015 for use as petroleum storage and distribution terminal.
