Description
Castell Mawr, Llanwinio, is a promontory enclosure complex set on a promontory above a stream confluence. A c.144m crescent of rampart, fronted by a rock-cut ditch, delimits the c.80m deep enclosure, at the apex of which is a roughly triangular mound, with sides of c.30m, ditched towards the enclosure: suggested as an Iron Age enclosure re-used as a medieval castle; identification uncertain - Castell Bach (Nprn304213), c.200m to the NE across a steeply wooded valley, is an apparently isolated motte.
