Description
A prehistoric standing stone, or as described on the OS card (SJ08SE/12) as a "maenhir" literally a "longstone". The stone now lies in two pieces flat on the ground, but it thought to have stood upright and in one piece before 1910. At some time after it presumably fell, the fallen stone which apparently was none too conspicuous, was presumably broken by tanks using the area for training during the second world war. The two pieces which have survived are each about 0.85m long and 0.4m and 0.3m wide on average. This indicates that the stone probably stood originally about 1.5m high. 115m above O.D.
