Opened on 19 February 1927 by Thomas Richards MP, the Cwmamman Workmen's Hall & Institute cost nearly £12,000 to build. A grant of £3,000 towards this cost was received from the Miners' Welfare Fund Joint Committee for South Wales and Monmouthshire. The building was constructed on land owned by the Amalgamated Anthracite Collieries Ltd. In operation as an Institute until 1972, it was subsequently bought in 1982 for business purposes and the Amman Valley Leisure Centre opened in 1985 providing snooker rooms. The building is rapidly deteriorating having stood empty for several years.
