Description
Carmarthen Provision Market was built in 1846 as an enclosed covered market (see NPRN 23310). In 1981 it was demolished to make way for the present Provision Market hall and Market Precinct and only the central clock tower was retained.
This is a two stage Italianate tower of stone rubble, probably originally stuccoed. It has low battered angle piers and bands between the stages. The openings are round-headed, those on the upper floor set within otherwise blind arcading. It has a truncated slate pyramid roof carrying a two stage clock turret, itself with a pyramidal slate roof and ball finial.
