Site Description
Ebbw Vale Steelworks originated in 1789. The world's first steel rail was rolled at Ebbw Vale in 1857, and from the 1860s it produced steel by the Bessemer process. Before total closure and demolition of the plant in 2002-5, it specialised in rolling and coating coil steel produced at Llanwern (nprn 86821) and Port Talbot (nprn 91392).
RCAHMW, 14 December 2007.
The works was recorded from the air during demolition on 13th August 2003, including stereo colour aerial photography from which 3D anaglyphs have been generated.
