The church of St Mary and Sy Cynidr in Llangynidr almost certainly has its origin in the early medieval period, but there are no visible remains of this date surviving, although the circular churchyard is also indicative of an early date. It was completely rebuilt after a fire in 1928 and only a broken font and a few other fixtures survive from the earlier building, although much of the masonry was re-uesed.
