Description
This road forms part of the celebrated `Monks Trod' (main record NPRN 23712) an ancient road across the Cambrian Mountains, from the Teifi Basin to the upper Wye Valley. It seems to have linked the great medieval religious centres of Abbey Cwmhir (NPRN 96529) in Radnorshire to the east to Strata Florida Abbey (NPRN 95764) in the west. This part of its course runs west from Abbey Cwmhir, zig-zagging as it descends Cwm-hir Bank at SO 0216 7093, rising up towards Park Farm (NPRN 30888) and crossing the ridge of Moel Hywel (SO 0071) as a public trackway. It was researched and published by Professor Andrew Fleming in 2009 (See British Archaeology 109, Nov-Dec 2009).
