The station was built in 1859 as the terminus of the Llanidloes and Newtown Railway. In 1846 a new joint station (nprn 43028) was built some 400m to the south west and the 1859 station was used for handling coal and lead ore. The site has been demolished and cleared and a local authority road depot has been built over the area.
