Description
Clearwater Paper Mill was important as it was the earliest paper mill in the valley, dating from circa 1760; there is an assumption that a wireworks formerly stood on the site. The mill had a pond and feeder stream and by 1863 there was a steam engine driving a very large paper-making machine. This engine was assisted by an overshot wheel and a water turbine. Subsequently the mill collapsed and it finally closed in 1875.
