Unitary (Local) Authority Swansea

Old County Glamorgan

Community Mawr

Type of Site BUILDING PLATFORM

Broad Class AGRICULTURE AND SUBSISTENCE

Period Post Medieval, Medieval

Site Description One of several building platforms associated with cultivation ridges, located on the eastern side of Mynydd Pysgodlyn, overlooking Cwm Nant-ddu, and forming part of a settlement and field system of likely medieval date (NPRN 412541).
This building platform is poorly-defined, cut into gently sloping ground. The terrace measures some 18m long (E-W) and about 4.5m wide. It is cut back to a depth of 0.6m and built out to 0.5m high. At roughly 4m from its upper end the terrace steps down 0.3m. A swelling on the south side of this step suggests it could be the main ‘hood’, with a smaller ancillary platform feature immediately above it.
