Description
Opened on 30 May 1925 by Mrs Brockett, the Cwmgwrach Miners? Welfare Ground extends over two acres and consisted of three tennis courts, a bowling green, putting green, children's playground, and a 270 capacity pavilion. The cost of £2,500 was partially met by a £1,000 grant from the Miners? Welfare Fund and a £500 cheque from the Cwmgwrach and Empire Collieries Company. The rest of the costs and the maintenance of the site were met by the workforce of the village. The bowling green was replaced by a paddling pool in the late-1960s and is itself no longer in existence. Only the tennis courts have survived.
