Description
Constructed in 1892 at a cost of £3,300 and officially opened on Whit-Monday (22 May) 1893, Treharris Public Hall & Institute contained a large hall, library and reading room, recreation room, committee rooms, and a music hall. For much of its life, it was maintained by a levy on miners' wages. In use subsequently as a theatre, bingo hall, snooker club, and most famously as the Palace Cinema. By the mid-1990s, the building had fallen into disrepair and was slowly demolished. By the year 2000, nothing of the former Public Hall was left. The site is now an open space.
