Description
Opened on 22 April 1924, the Glenrhondda Workmen's Hall provided a library and reading room, small public hall, and external recreation facilities: notably a bowling green. Building costs, estimated at £11,000 - £12,000, were met partly through a grant of £4,000 from the Miners' Welfare Fund. Foundation stones were laid in late-July 1923. The building was constructed by Michael Davies of Treherbert and designed by Messrs Gibb & Smith, architects from Port Talbot. Following the closure of the Glenrhondda Colliery by the National Coal Board in 1966, the Hall fell into disuse and was eventually demolished in the 1970s along with the bowling green.
