Description
Brynamman Public Hall & Institute dates back to the late nineteenth century when a tin-shed style public hall was constructed on this site. This building burned down in December 1915 and the village remained without a hall or institute until the mid-1920s. Building work on the present hall began in 1924 and was completed in 1926. Officially opened on 15 May 1926, the hall contained a large cinema (capacity 1,100), library and reading room, billiards room, and lounge. Initially the cinema showed silent films but the provision of a sound system in the 1930s enabled the showing of talkies. Today it is primarily used as a cinema.
