Site Description St Julian's Recreation Ground was purchased by Newport Corporation in 1907 and by 1912 the site was completed fenced in. During the inter-war years tennis courts and a bowling green were added to existing playing fields. With the construction of the M4, St Julian's Recreation Ground was spliced into two with the southern portion remaining largely intact. In addition to the bowling green and tennis courts, a children's playground and an indoor bowls centre have been added. The northern part of the original St Julian's Recreation Ground was primarily lost to the M4 motorway with the northernmost section being given over to industrial purposes. This is now derelict.
