The former school has a wall plaque which states that it was erected in 1829. Built as a village school, it is an L shaped building with the longer part running parallel to the road and the shorter cross wing at right angles to the road. It was the former residence of Lord Bertrand Russell and appears on the first edition 25" OS map, ME XII. 5, of 1889.
