Bethel Independent Chapel was first built in 1848 to the design of architect Benjamin Owens of Merthyr, then rebuilt in 1866 by architect Thomas Thomas of Landore. Bethel was rebuilt again in 1894, this time by architect John Henry Phillips of Caerphilly in the Gothic style with a gable-entry plan. This Bethel closed in 1990 and a fourth smaller chapel built in 1992.
