Description
Our Lady of Sorrows Church is situated close to Dolgellau town centre. It is flanked by buildings to its north and south, with Afon Arran immediately to the east and Heol Feyric (Meyrick street) immediately to the west. It was founded by Fr. Francis Scalpell (1895-1970), a priest who came from Malta to Dolgellau in 1928. He was the first Catholic priest to do so since the Reformation.

The building is a Romanesque style modern Roman Catholic Church, begun in 1963, but not consecrated until Whit Monday, 1970. It is built from rock-faced grey stone with a slate roof. It has a deep round-arched doorway flanked by heraldic panels representing Wales and Malta and a large crucifix over the door.
