Description
A windmill symbol is marked on the 1in to the mile Ordnance Survey map of 1834 and a five-sailed windmill is shown in the foreground of a sketch entitled 'The Old Windmill and Church at Llanbadarn near Aberystwyth' by T. Hastings, dated 7 September 1849. The site of the mill is an area of low-lying flat land where several tanneries were located during the nineteenth century; there is a strong likelihood that this windmill was used for crushing oak bark for the local leather tanning industry.
