Description
Built in 1856/7 as a militia barracks and later converted to a magistrates court and police station, for which it was extended in the 1890s. More recently used as council offices, and now the Wrexham County Borough Museum. Jacobethan style, in a courtyard plan, with a 2-storey, 5-bay entrance front flanked by gabled ranges, with a baronial tower to the far left. Snecked masonry facings and freestone dressings, with steep slate roofs. Central cross-gable over 4-light oriel window flanked by 3-light windows, all with mullions and transoms. Stringcourse over 5-bay loggia, now glazed. Lower gabled wings are broadly similar, with the left-hand range also having an elaborate outer stair tower.
