DescriptionThe mill is first mentioned in a lease of 1528. The present building dates largely from the nineteenth century, and is a substantial water-powered corn mill with an enclosed overshot wheel. During the early/mid twentieth century, the mill worked 24hrs a day: 12 hours milling and at night the water was used to drive a turbine (still in situ) for generating electricity for the village. The mill stopped working in 1964, but retains remarkably complete internal machinery and is believed to be the best preserved example of a workable water mill with an internal waterwheel in Brecknock.
