Trefor is located 9 miles north from Pwllheli and 13 miles south west from Caernarfon, and is surrounded by the sea and mountains, and overlooks Caernarfon bay. The village did not exist before the mid-nineteenth century and is absent from the local Tithe map of the 1840s. It only developed later in the century thanks to the local granite quarry, its small harbour exporting granite all over Europe.
