Description
Charles Wood and William Edward's original 1766 weir and leat from the Taff Fawr to the first Cyfarthfa furnace. Ditch runs alongside the river as far as Pontycafnau.
(A Guide to the Industrial Archaeology of South East Wales, AIA, 2003)
The leat was built in 1766 to carry water from a weir across the Afon Taf to Cyfarthfa Ironworks (nprn 34078), approximately 1km to the southeast. The course includes a rock-cut tunnel with a stone paved floor, originally some 93m long but later extended.
