Description
For a period in the 1870s the Van Mine (Nprn34017) was the world's largest producer of lead ore. The remains of the mine's smelting complex include two chimneys and other structures, depicted on OS County series mapping (1889). It was linked to the main complex by an incline (Nprn309764), with a tramway leading east to a disused quarry (Nprn309763).
