Description
In 1835, a stone pier and quay were built by Daniel Beynon at Newquay, modifying plans produced in 1820 by John Rennie. It is a massive three level curving pier of squared rubble blocks, which featured a pepperpot lighthouse built in c1859 to replace an earlier structure destroyed in the great storm of 1859. This was destroyed following the great storm of 1938, after which some parts of the stonework were repaired in concrete. A four storey earlier nineteenth century warehouse is set upon the inner end of the pier (NPRN 309862).
