Description
A cake press house (No.30 on the Nobel Plan), where the milled powder mass was compressed by high pressure into 1-inch thick slabs. These were then broken up into smaller pieces and put into barrels. The building was erected before 1877, and was served by a loop off the tramway. This ran round the back (west) side of the building through a covered porch. The structure survives as footings and masonry part-walls that stand up to 1.5m in height. A pit adjacent on the east side may have housed a turbine to power the press pumps.
