Description
A pellet press house where the powder was pressed by hydraulic machines into pellets approximately 40mm diameter, 50mm long. This structure is not shown on OS 1877, the tramroad being in tunnel here, at this date. Built by 1904 on the south side of the new tramway alignment, it was out of use by 1927 (No.68 on the Nobel Plan). Its late building date probably explains why it is geographically out of sequence in the process, being located between the cake press houses and the corning houses rather than after the latter. It survives in part, the masonry-built east wall standing to a height of 2.5m with part of a window visible. It is built on a substantial platform with a revetment wall dropping to the river.
