Description
Pye Corner was a typical heavy Anti-Artillery (HAA) battery set up in the early part of the second world war. This was a permanent site, probably built towards the end of 1940, to defend the aerial approaches to Newport. The buildings were abandoned towards the end of the war, and evidence suggests that the site was stripped of its more temporary hutting, and that the roofs, fixtures and fittings were removed. The permanent buildings are now in a very poor state of repair and much of the external blockwork has collapsed.
