Description
Water for washing at Newton House (nprn 17603), part of Dynefwr Park (nprn 266170), came from a well on the Towy flood plain and was raised to an underground reservoir in the Rookery by a pump in the pump house. The water then descended to an underground tank close to the house, passing through filters on the way. The stone-built pump house has a pitched corrugated roof, extended to cover a small brick-built extension on the western side, and has decorative barge boards. The building contains a 12 ft diameter waterwheel and a Blackstone internal combustion engine, either of which can drive the pump, according to availability of water to turn the wheel.
