Description
Aber troughs were installed in 1871 some 1.15 km to the east of Aber Station (centre point at 232 miles 74 chains from London Euston station) and were 508 yards (465 metres long). Originally installed at Mochdre (nprn 415288), they were the first water troughs in the world, dating from 1859/60. On the second (1900) and third (1914) editions of the Ordnance Survey 25in mapping, tanks are depicted and annotated near each end of the troughs on the south side of the railway.
