One of a line of three cairns laid out across an upland saddle, a mutilated stony mound, some 22m in diameter & 0.3m high; this monument is set upon a slight rise, overlooking Cairn II, some 100m to the south-east (Nprn303796 - a possible ringcairn), & looking across to the similarly situated Cairn III (Nprn402919) beyond: a fallen monolith (Nprn303797) lies some 45m to the west, & a further cairn is shown about 100m to the north-east, continuing the alignment of the three remaining cairns, on the 1st edition (1831) OS 1" survey.
